Terry is a candid, personable advisor that people count on for straightforward and thoughtful guidance. He specializes in creating investment strategies for people who need, want, and are ready to act on financial advice. His recommendations are based on years of experience, sound methodologies, and careful consideration of each person's unique circumstances.
Terry's advice for happiness and success is rooted in his belief that "fitness" is necessary across three areas: the physical, the spiritual or emotional, and the financial. A widow's story illustrates how the three fitness areas are interrelated. After her husband's death, a client found herself overwhelmed by the responsibilities and obligations of continuing the family business. The weight of the burden began to affect her physical health and emotional well-being; she had no idea what to do or where to begin. With his personal and professional counsel, Terry helped her liquidate the business as part of a larger plan for her financial future. Knowing the plan was in place for her, and then seeing it in motion, she felt the burden lift and actually said, "Now I can relax." This epitomizes Terry's goal as an advisor and it underscores the importance of the three-pronged fitness approach.
Financial fitness isn't limited to retirement and estate planning. There are many earlier decisions that impact someone's long-term financial success, and many people turn to their parents or friends for guidance. Unfortunately, although the guidance is well intended, not everyone receives sound advice this way. Terry advises with friend-like compassion and he listens carefully to unearth the deepest concerns. His goal is to encourage, provide hope, and help people discover that planning and achieving are processes that can be enjoyed.
His grandfather, Jack Parry, influenced Terry's career decision and remains a significant influence and inspiration, both personally and professionally. As he watched his grandfather thoughtfully help people manage their business and personal finances, Terry realized that he has similar skills with people and numbers so, after briefly considering a dental career, he eagerly pursued his financial advisory career. He joined his grandfather and uncle in practice in 1987, and eventually came to manage the CPA firm now known as Parry, Roe & Company.
Terry elected to round out his tax and business consulting practice with Series 65 licensure as an investment advisor. In addition to working with the people of Idaho Falls, Terry consulted for several years with some of the largest financial firms on Wall Street, performing due-diligence on the quality of loans that would be rolled into bonds. His work involved site inspections of commercial loan collateral, work on underwriting, and a bit of time on the trading floor. These experiences reinforce the knowledge that he brings as he advises people about how to thoughtfully manage their finances and invest their money.
When he's not working, Terry enjoys spending time with his wife, Debie, their children, grandchildren and friends, in all types of family and outdoor activities.
