As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, Cody strives to focus on the individual when crafting a personal financial plan. He became fascinated with stocks and finance at an early age. This interest intensified while taking a college finance course that discussed retirement planning. He determined then to learn all he could about managing his personal finances responsibly to enable him to retire comfortably. Upon learning he could build a career in helping others do the same, he knew he had found his professional calling.
Cody earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Finance from Brigham Young University - Idaho. Following his undergraduate degree, Cody completed a master’s degree from Kansas State University, one of the top Personal Financial Planning programs in the nation. While there, his coursework included Behavioral Finance which focuses on investor psychology and the emotions of financial markets. This subject personally appealed to Cody as it helped him better appreciate the reality that people often make decisions based on their personal experiences and biases instead of academic research. This understanding becomes even more important when developing a personal financial plan that is customized to the individual.
Upon completing his master’s degree, Cody was accepted to Yeske Buie’s Financial Planning Resident program. In this role, he worked directly with clients, prepared financial plans and reviews, and worked in all aspects of the financial planning process. Following this position, Cody has worked in a variety of roles including Investment Solutions Representative, Private Wealth Advisor, and most recently with Fidelity Investments as a Workplace Retirement Planner. He appreciates how these experiences prepared him well for a position with Onyx Financial Advisors.
Cody joined the Onyx team in 2021 and was attracted to the firm because of his alignment with Onyx’s investment philosophy, and the firm’s commitment to professional excellence. Cody is committed to carefully listening to the clients he works with, helping them create a well-thought-out plan, answering questions, and adjusting when necessary; all in an effort to help them achieve their long-term financial goals and alleviate stress from their lives. He has said, “I always view financial planning as a means to utilize the resources you have to live your best life.”
Cody and his wife love living close to family in Southeast Idaho. He enjoys all sports, particularly golf and football. He’s also an avid reader of political thriller novels and enjoys travelling to new places with his wife.
